Attorney Profiles

Steven M. Garver

Respected Virginia lawyer Steven M Garver founded the Garver Law Offices in 1975 to help injured people, families in distress and businesses in dispute, in state and federal courts throughout the state.

Mr. Garver uses his quality legal services to represent real people with real problems.  Away from his busy law offices, he belongs to several bar and trial lawyers associations and has served on the Board of Governors of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association as well as having served on numerous committees.  He was formerly a member of the Fairfax Bar Association Board of Directors and served numerous committees.  He was a member of the Board and executive committee of the American Association for Justice, the largest trial bar in the world.  Mr. Garver has lectured in the State of Virginia in areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, and evidence.  He teaches as an adjunct professor of law at George Mason University Law School.  He formerly served as editor of the Fairfax Circuit Court Manual and has chaired various bar committees and served on many more.

While Mr. Garver has represented generals and others of notoriety, he generally represents the “average joe” (male or female).  Amongst his most gratifying cases are those in which he has represented victims of medical negligence that then abused by the system as it operates to cover up, conceal and protect the health care provider.  The negligence is usually unintended by the well-intentioned health care provider who made an innocent mistake which unfortunately harms an innocent patient, causing serious injury or even death.  Unfortunately, the cover-up of the mistakes, which is pervasive, is destructive to the trust essential to the provision of health care services in our society.  It is the ultimate indignity afforded the innocent people who after being unintentionally harmed by medical mistakes are then intentionally victimized by a system which seeks to cover it up.  It is not so much the negligence but the lies and deceit which insult the integrity of each victim.  Too, our medical negligence cases often impact how medical services are delivered so that there will not be more victims of a similar negligent act.

Mr. Garver has tried to verdict numerous cases in several disciplines throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and appeared before the Virginia Court of Appeals, the Virginia Supreme Court, Federal District Courts, both the Western District of Virginia and the Eastern District of Virginia as well as the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.  He too is a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.
